Rob Smart
Learning Mentor & Librarian
Rob’s education began at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardy… or he wishes it did. After going to school in Bristol he went to the University of Hertfordshire where he graduated with a first-class degree in English Literature with Film.
He originally trained as a Primary School teacher, before switching to Secondary when he became a founding member of the Learning Mentor team when Bedford Free School opened. He runs the World’s Greatest School Library© and now teaches Computing to all of KS3.
Rob became a teacher as he believes that through schooling, education, and reading then any child can be given an inspiring start in life that can equip them with the tools necessary to do everything they could want to do in life.
Computers are becoming the dominant force in the world of technology and innovation, and being able to use them to create amazing things is a deeply satisfying experience.
This year Rob is working on ensuring that ‘STAR’ is fully embedded within all of his lessons. He is also trying to use ‘Positive framing’ and ‘Exit tickets’ in order to ensure all students feel confident in the subject and so that he can gain lesson-by-lesson feedback on how the students are doing.
