FAME Jr - The BFS Musical

Fame! I Want To Live Forever!

On the 15th, 16th and 17th January 2020, Bedford Free School (BFS) and Bedford College students teamed up for the fourth year running to put on three sell out performances.

Under the direction of Miss Damon, Head of Drama at BFS, 56 students ranging from year 7 to year 11 made up the fabulous cast of FAME Jr.  Miss Damon oversees the annual school musical as part of the BFS elective programme which is headed up by Mr Cox, Head of Community & Partnerships for Advantage Schools.  Mr Cox explained “Electives are specific to BFS and we’re very proud of the programme, we think that they help to create not just academic but well-rounded students. Electives are after school clubs which take place within the timetabled curriculum and provide the students with a really broad range of activities that wouldn’t be possible to deliver in a normal after school setting.”

Miss Damon said “The students worked incredibly hard during the elective programme to ensure the performances were of a high quality and effortlessly entertaining. For the first time in BFS history the musical ran for three nights rather than two, which reflects the reputation of the school shows and the expectation the friends and families have of what the students are capable of.”

The Bedford College technical students, under the creative direction of Ralph Wadley, designed and created the set and operated the lighting and sound. The Theatrical Hair and Make Up students designed and applied the makeup for the cast members for all three shows. Together with the set, lighting, sound, hair and makeup the students get a real sense of what it is like to take part in a professional production.

Miss Damon added “I am, as always, so proud of all the students involved both at BFS and Bedford College. Not only are they hardworking but they are incredibly talented and I feel very lucky that I get to direct the musical. I can’t wait to start working on next year’s show!”
